Carnegie Mellon University Adopts ProQuest’s TDM Studio™ Service for Text and Data Mining
Researchers with and without coding experience can transform massive datasets into insights and discoveries
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, April 27, 2021 – Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) researchers, faculty and students can now analyze massive volumes of data, spot trends and patterns, and quickly gain powerful insights using a unique text and data mining (TDM) resource. CMU, a global research university based in Pittsburgh, Pa., joins the ranks of Dartmouth College, Syracuse University, and many others to adopt TDM Studio, a technology that enables advanced exploration of data in research, teaching and learning across disciplines.
TDM Studio is accessible to users with and without coding experience, removing barriers to analyze large datasets. The new visualization interface in TDM Studio allows users to build powerful visualizations in minutes, while those with coding experience benefit from its development environment. TDM Studio is designed to work with the library’s existing content, including ProQuest’s extraordinary range of historical newspapers, journals and dissertations.
“We’re very excited about the innovation that TDM Studio will bring to Carnegie Mellon,” said CMU Senior Librarian Ethan Pullman. “This is the first time we’ve had access to a tool that can pull this much information together and analyze it in a matter of minutes. From linguistics to the sciences, TDM Studio will bring new opportunities to researchers and students at all skill levels and with all backgrounds.”
“We’re honored that Carnegie Mellon selected TDM Studio to bring powerful data analytics to its research, teaching and learning community,” said Jim Holmes, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at ProQuest. “CMU is an institution at the forefront of data science, and we look forward to seeing their users’ new insights and discoveries.”
