JSTOR Ebooks Now Available in the Rialto™ and OASIS® Marketplaces
Through ProQuest, librarians can acquire more than 100,000 titles from the not-for-profit digital library
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, April 7, 2021 – Librarians can now acquire titles from JSTOR’s collection of more than 100,000 ebooks from more than 275 academic publishers through the Rialto and OASIS marketplaces. JSTOR's unlimited, digital rights management (DRM)-free access model and integration with journals and primary sources creates an easy and familiar user experience for researchers around the world.
Title-by-title ordering is now available for JSTOR ebooks on Rialto and OASIS, and JSTOR’s tiered savings are available to libraries through both marketplaces. Demand-driven acquisition (DDA) for JSTOR on Rialto and OASIS will follow later.
“At a time when demand for ebooks is higher than ever before, libraries need simple workflows to manage their acquisitions,” noted Rebecca Seger, Vice President of Institutional Participation and Strategic Partnerships at JSTOR. “Working with ProQuest enables us to expand the options available to libraries to support their established ebook workflows.”
This release follows an early-adoption period in which The New School, the University of South Australia, the University of Glasgow and the National University of Ireland, Galway contributed valuable input on the integration to ensure a positive experience for all library participants.
“The JSTOR ebook platform offers an unlimited, DRM-free access model which the University of South Australia Library and our users prefer,” said Anthony Abela, Acquisitions Librarian at University of South Australia Library. “This combined with acquisition workflow process improvements provided by Rialto were the primary drivers for the University of South Australia Library to become early adopters.”
“We are pleased to offer libraries the option to acquire JSTOR ebooks through their primary acquisitions workflow for greater efficiency,” said Audrey Marcus, Vice President, Product Management at ProQuest. “JSTOR is highly respected by librarians and users alike – and integrating their ebooks into Rialto and OASIS exemplifies the ProQuest value of delivering choice.”
JSTOR is one of many publisher-direct options available for acquisition on the ProQuest OASIS online ordering platform long used by librarians to select and acquire academic content, and the Rialto next-generation marketplace built to unify and streamline selection and acquisition workflows for academic libraries. Librarians can choose ebooks and streaming video from a rapidly growing number of platforms within their usual ordering workflow, simplifying the ordering and invoicing process. More publisher-direct options will be added throughout 2021.
