Tulane University Libraries to Adopt Ex Libris Alma Library Services Platform

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce Tulane University has selected the Alma library services platform.

CHICAGO, IL, April 28, 2020 – Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Tulane University has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform. The move to the new platform will enable the university’s libraries to unify the management of their electronic resources and make them as easily discoverable as possible.

The COVID-19 crisis brought into sharp focus the value of the online services provided by Tulane’s libraries. Migration to the cloud-based Alma platform and its integration with the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution, which Tulane has been using for a number of years, will improve the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of the libraries’ operations for patrons both on and off campus.

The unified Alma platform will simplify the libraries’ workflows, improve the visibility of crucial license and contractual information, and provide analytics to inform real-time, collection-related decisions. Furthermore, the platform will enable the library staff to collaborate with members of the global Alma community to share best practices and analyses.

Tulane was founded in 1834 in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a public medical college with the goal of combating yellow fever, cholera, and other tropical diseases. Today, Tulane is categorized as an “R1”—highest research activity—doctoral university in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education and is ranked in the top 40 national universities by the U.S. News & World Report. A member of both the Association of American Universities and the Association of Research Libraries, Tulane serves 14,000 students enrolled in 10 undergraduate and graduate schools.

Tulane Dean of Libraries and Academic Information Resources David Banush explained, “The Tulane libraries’ vision statement is ‘Inspiring inquiry, enabling creativity, enriching minds.’ As we strive to make that vision a reality, we are always looking for solutions and partners that can help us make the most of our resources while supporting innovation, growth, and sustainability. We think the Alma platform will be one of the tools that helps us build a better library for Tulane’s learners, teachers, and researchers.”

“Ex Libris is happy to welcome Tulane University’s libraries to the Alma user community,” remarked Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America. “In addition to streamlining workflows to enhance productivity, the Alma platform will provide the libraries with insights into the usage of their collections and will improve access to information for all users.”
