Cambridge University Libraries Go Live with Ex Libris Alma and Primo Solutions

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the successful implementation of the Alma library services platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution at the University of Cambridge.

LONDON, UK, February 15, 2018 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the successful implementation of the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Primo® discovery and delivery solution at the University of Cambridge. The Alma and Primo solutions will be an integral part of services at multiple Cambridge libraries.

The Alma and Primo solutions enable the University to unify the management of its digital and print resources, take advantage of the collaborative Alma capabilities, and present users with a coherent view of the services and collections that are available to them.

Dr. Jessica Gardner, University Librarian, said, “This was a complex project that required close collaboration between the university’s library and systems teams and Ex Libris. Along the way, we worked with users to minimize the impact of the change and to maximize the opportunities to provide enhanced access to content and improved system functionality. The project has gone very smoothly, from the initial planning phase through the switchover to live operations. We are all really proud of what the teams have achieved for libraries and library users at Cambridge.”

Ofer Mosseri, general manager and vice president of Ex Libris Europe, noted, “I am thrilled to see Cambridge University Libraries go live with Alma and Primo. The efficient implementation of these solutions at such a complex institution is a testament to the robust Alma and Primo functionality, the skilled Ex Libris and Cambridge teams, and our many years of experience gained from thousands of successful implementations around the world.”

About Cambridge University Libraries

The libraries of the University of Cambridge house rich and diverse collections of information resources to support the teaching and research of the University. There are over 100 libraries in Cambridge. The University Library (UL) welcomes staff and students from all colleges and subject areas. For 600 years, it has been central to the support of teaching and research at Cambridge. More than eight million books and periodicals, one million maps, and many thousands of manuscripts occupy more than 125 miles of shelving. Department and faculty library collections support teaching and research in subject areas taught at Cambridge and add breadth to what is available for students and academics. Many of these libraries have subject librarians who can provide specialist support and assistance to the academic disciplines. Cambridge’s college libraries are private libraries for use by the colleges’ own students and staff. The college library is generally the first library a student visits and is often the most convenient, providing core texts from reading lists and quiet spaces for study where the students live and learn.
