University of Genoa (Università degli Studi di Genova) Chooses Ex Libris Alma Service to Unify Management of Resources

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the University of Genoa has opted to migrate to the Alma library management service to help meet the increasing demand for electronic resources.

CSASSO MARCONI, Italy, May 11, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that Italy’s University of Genoa (Università degli Studi di Genova) has opted to migrate to the Ex Libris Alma® library management service to help meet the increasing demand for electronic resources. Integrated with the university’s Primo discovery and delivery solution, including the Primo Central Index, the Alma service will enable the library team to benefit from unified, streamlined workflows.

A long-term Ex Libris Aleph® customer, the university library found that the type of resources that users seek has undergone a significant change in the past few years. As a result, the university library system has had to adapt to new processes for acquiring and managing electronic resources in addition to managing extensive print collections.

University of Genoa Library Director Antonio Scolari said, “At the moment, we are spending over 75% of our budget on e-journals, e-books, and databases. I anticipate that in the future, the proportion that we spend on print materials will continue to shrink. A unified system that manages the whole workflow, from purchase proposal to inventory-related activities, will support the change in the way that we manage our budget.”

The move to Alma will give the university a unified resource management solution that will enable the staff to take advantage of enhanced workflows for acquiring and managing electronic resources. The librarians will also be using the Alma Community Zone to collaborate on the cataloging, acquisition, and management of resources. The resulting time that is saved on day-to-day tasks will provide more opportunities for the library to deliver teaching, learning, and visitor support services.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, “I am delighted that the University of Genoa is joining our rapidly growing Italian Alma community. The five libraries of the University will be able to work together in a collaborative environment that supports their institutional goals while reducing the effort required to manage their extensive collections.”
