National University of Ireland Galway Selects Ex Libris Alma and Primo to Realize Ambitious Library Vision

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the National University of Ireland Galway has selected the Alma library management service and Primo discovery and delivery solution.

LONDON, UK, March 29, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library management service and Primo® discovery and delivery solution as a unified platform for delivering the university’s library services strategy.

NUI Galway currently uses a locally managed infrastructure, which served the university well as long as the library was focused primarily on print resources. However, with the growth in demand for electronic resources, the library has had to develop workarounds to handle new formats. As a result, the library systems have become more complex and require greater administrative overhead.

NUI Galway has opted for the cloud-based Alma and Primo solutions, which offer the stability of a hosted, vendor-maintained environment along with a steady pipeline of developments incorporating rapidly evolving technology. The reduced administrative burden will enable local staff to engage in more user-centered activities that are better aligned with the library’s goal of partnering to advance teaching, learning, and research.

The automated Alma workflow functionality, including unified resource management, will be closely integrated with other administrative systems. In addition, the advanced Alma and Primo analytics will assist the library in developing a more informed evidence-based approach to collection management, a key priority in the library’s strategy.

University Librarian John Cox said, “Our vision is that the library will be a catalyst for teaching, learning, and research success by serving as NUI Galway’s hub for the discovery, sharing, and publication of scholarly information. Alma is essential infrastructure for helping us develop our collections to meet the requirements of academic programs, foster a dynamic learning environment, and drive innovative research and global access. Alma and Primo will enable us to create simpler routes to information in all formats, access to rich archival and special collections, and more tools for discovering and managing information.”

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, remarked, “We are delighted that the NUI Galway library has chosen to entrust the realization of its strategic vision to our resource management, discovery, and delivery services. We welcome the university to the rapidly growing Alma and Primo communities in Ireland.”
