National Library of Scotland Chooses Ex Libris Alma and Primo

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the National Library of Scotland has selected the Alma library services platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution.

LONDON, UK, August 18, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the National Library of Scotland has selected the cloud-based Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Primo® discovery and delivery solution to help the Library better manage its collections, increase the visibility of resources, and handle the ever-growing quantity of electronic resources and print deposits.

The increasing volume of electronic resources, as a result of a growing move to non-print legal deposit and an increase in the acquisition of digital resources, have placed a strain on the National Library’s print-focused integrated library system and OPAC. In addition, the Library requires better integration with other systems, such as the finance, customer registration and authentication, and digital assessment systems, in order to reduce the duplication of data and processes.

National Librarian Dr John Scally commented, “The Library has an ambitious plan to improve access to the collections, promote research and learning, and reach a wider audience. Alma and Primo give us some of the tools to help realise these goals.”

The Library will use Alma to improve efficiency and productivity by automating processes and improving integration so that staff members can spend their time and use their skills more effectively. The unified management of resources regardless of their acquisition method—purchased, donated, or received as legal deposit—will enable the Library to handle the increase in both print and electronic formats in a single workflow. In addition, Primo will provide a seamless, modern resource-discovery experience for users, helping them to easily find and access print and electronic resources from the wealth of the Library’s collections.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, said, “The National Library of Scotland joins a growing community of national libraries from around the world that have chosen Ex Libris solutions to help meet the libraries’ legal duties and increase the quality of services offered to users of all types. We are proud to have the National Library of Scotland join our growing Alma and Primo community.”
