Australian Institute of Music Selects Summon Service to Optimize Access to Resources
ADELAIDE, Australia, April 3, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) library has selected the Ex Libris Summon® Service to increase the accessibility of the Institute’s unique electronic and print resources. Along with the Ex Libris 360 Link and 360 Core solutions, the Summon discovery system will be integrated with the library’s Liberty Library Management catalog and will enable the library to provide a single entry point to its entire collection.
AIM sought a system that would improve the research experience by offering an intuitive, keyword-search interface and a unified list of search results drawn from all the library’s resources. Summon will become the library’s primary access point for its subscribed resources, moving beyond the existing student portal which only displays links to databases and other content available through the library. Another major factor in the Institute’s decision was the Summon indexing methodology, which merges metadata from various sources to create a single, rich Summon record optimized for resource discovery.
“Our goal is for library patrons at both of our campuses to be able to access and use resources in an easy, straightforward way,” stated Anna Shelmerdine, librarian at AIM. “Because we have a limited budget for resources, our discovery service must be capable of exposing content from our subscribed databases, from individual journals, and from our local catalog. We are confident that Summon will both expose our collections and maximize the usage of all our resources.”
