Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Health Sciences Library in Australia Selects Ex Libris Suite

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Royal Melbourne Hospital Health Sciences Library has selected a suite of Ex Libris discovery and delivery solutions.

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA, March 10, 2016 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) Health Sciences Library, which also serves the Royal Women’s Hospital, has selected the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution and SFX OpenURL link resolver to replace the library’s EBSCO Discovery Service™.

The RMH evaluation team sought a discovery platform and open-link resolver that would provide a simple, intuitive way for users to access resources. Library Manager Susan Monaghan explained: “After reviewing our journal A-Z and discovery search products, the RMH Health Sciences Library opted to implement Ex Libris Primo and SFX. The library had been using another vendor’s solution, but because of product redevelopment and the configuration of the discovery index, we found that the solution was no longer meeting our needs.

“As the sole library for multiple, co-located hospital services,” Monaghan continued, “RMH has complex requirements. We need a solution that is capable of streamlining resource access by disparate client groups and that provides a robust discovery search that will maximize the potential of our significant investment in journal resources.

“Our clients are heavy users of medical research literature. They want fast, reliable solutions that will enable them to move easily between search results and articles, as well as to locate known citations quickly and effectively.

“Control over routine administrative functions and the flexibility and customizability of the back end were major factors in our selection of Ex Libris solutions, Monaghan added. “We have limited staff, so when we can do something ourselves, we prefer to avoid corresponding with third parties and waiting for results. We need that efficiency of time to meet our service charter.”

Ziv BenZvi, Ex Libris vice president for Asia Pacific, commented: “We are delighted to welcome the RMH Health Sciences Library to the Ex Libris family and Primo community. We are finding that special libraries are increasingly looking to adopt a sophisticated discovery platform that offers full flexibility in terms of back-end configurations and that leverages the Ex Libris policy of content neutrality, implemented through the Primo ranking algorithm. We look forward to working with the RMH Health Sciences Library and helping it maximize the use of Primo for many years to come.”

About the Royal Melbourne Health Sciences Library

The Royal Melbourne Health Sciences Library services the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women’s hospitals and will soon extend services to a third hospital in the Parkville Medical Precinct. The Library also provides services to mental health agencies of the Victoria Department of Health & Human Services.

The Library is situated in the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The Royal Melbourne is one of the largest hospitals in Victoria and provides general and specialist medical and surgical acute services, sub-acute rehabilitation, and aged care services.
