Shanghai Library Increases the Value of their Collections with Chinese Newspapers Collection

Shanghai Library has added ProQuest Historical Newspapers™ - Chinese Newspapers Collection to enhance their library offerings. Providing access to these twelve sources, which cover more than a century of content, the Chinese Newspapers Collection (CHNP) will complement their other resources through a digital environment that enables precision search and creative exploration, to simplify the research experience for the patrons of Shanghai Library.

“These historical newspapers were published in foreign languages from the mainland China late Qing Dynasty to the Republican Period,” the Shanghai Library comments, “they are a featured collection of our library.”

Chinese Newspapers Collection provides a primary source chronicle of the country's turbulent transition from Imperial rule to the founding of the Republic. With details in these 12 English-language Chinese newspapers that you won't find elsewhere, CHNP offers both the big picture and intimate personal perspectives.

The library staff at Shanghai Library believes that enhancing their electronic resource services helps to preserve valuable print titles by reducing the need for the original print editions to be removed from the library. Equally important, researchers will be able to easily find and extract historic article content and the full-image newspapers are searchable for access to advertisements, editorials, cartoons, and classified ads.

The Chinese Newspapers Collection is also cross-searchable with all ProQuest Historical Newspapers, current newspapers, and with other resources your library subscribes to on ProQuest. About Shanghai Library
The Shanghai Library was founded in 1952, and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of Shanghai was established in 1958. In October 1995, the Shanghai Library and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of Shanghai merged to become a comprehensive research public library and center for industrial information. It is also the branch of the National Cultural Information Resource Sharing Project in Shanghai, the main library of the Shanghai Central Library System, Shanghai Ancient Books Protection Center and the “Pioneer Technology Development Research Center” of the Shanghai soft science research base.
