ProQuest helps De Montfort University improve research outcomes for users
When De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, set a goal to improve discoverability of their growing online collections, they turned to ProQuest.
Their long-standing relationship with ProQuest had helped them build collections to support the University’s strong emphasis on the creative arts. With renowned arts resources in place -- including ARTbibliographies Modern, Design and Applied Arts Index, Film Index International and International Index to Performing Arts, as well as the core resource ProQuest Business Collection –- now the University was looking to ensure students and faculty could find what they needed from the library’s vast collections.
The solution De Montfort chose to improve the discoverability of their many online resources was the Summon® Service and 360 Link. Alan Brine, Head of Archives and Resource Management at De Montfort, said, “For users, full-text searching, and the staff favour the linkage across the different products. What distinguished ProQuest was their offer, not just the provision of the discovery search, but the quality of metadata and the additional content available to us.”
The university is also improving resource acquisition through more strategic planning. To enable this they purchased ebrary’s Academic Complete™. This provides the perfect solution to the university’s ebooks requirements, delivering a superior breadth and depth of content, with access over 110,000 scholarly titles, with a wide array of content across 16 core subject areas.
Brine says a key benefit of working with ProQuest has been its “Flexibility! ProQuest works to make sure the university has the right resources in place for the students and staff, and helps to make them more accessible.”
