Serials Solutions® announced today it has expanded its current agreement with Oxford University Press (OUP) to enable the discovery of five additional OUP resources from the Summon™ web-scale discovery service.

Serials Solutions®, a business unit of ProQuest® LLC, today announced it has expanded its current agreement with Oxford University Press (OUP) to enable the discovery of five additional OUP resources from the Summon™ web-scale discovery service. With the inclusion of the metadata of OUP resources including Grove Art Online, Grove Music Online, American Dictionary of National Biography Online, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online and Oxford Reference Online, researchers now will be able to discover this authoritative reference content alongside their library’s other resources to gather the most relevant information for their projects.

Oxford University Press, a department of Oxford University, furthers the University’s objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide. The world's largest and most international university press has become familiar to millions through a diverse publishing program that includes scholarly works in all academic disciplines, bibles, music, school and college textbooks, children's books, materials for teaching English as a foreign language, business books, dictionaries and reference books, and journals. The following additional resources from OUP will be discoverable in the Summon™ service:

  • Grove Art Online, available via Oxford Art Online, is one of the most authoritative resources for all aspects of world art, providing more than 23,000 subject entries, 21,000 biographies, 500,000 bibliographic citations, 40,000 image links, and 6,000 searchable images to support art-historical research.
  • Available via Oxford Music Online, Grove Music Online, the authority in online music research, contains more than 50,000 subject articles and more than 500 audible musical examples.
  • The American Dictionary of National Biography Online and Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online databases are considered the premier sources of information containing more than 75,000 biographies of the individuals who have influenced and shaped American and British history and culture respectively, spanning all eras ranging from the Romans to the 21st century.
  • Oxford Reference Online provides access to a wide range of authoritative reference works and contains over 1.4 million facts and definitions, thousands of illustrations, maps and links to other web resources.

“As libraries continue to adopt the Summon service, it is important that we continue to build and maintain a single index that delivers the most relevant coverage researchers expect when they begin their research,” said Mike Buschman, director of product management for the Summon™ service at Serials Solutions. “The integration of these additional resources from Oxford University Press makes Summon even more useful for researchers to quickly and easily discover authoritative reference information on art, music and biography.”

With this arrangement, OUP expands the content available from the ever-growing list of content providers in the Summon™ service, underscoring Serials Solutions’ ongoing commitment to make the most comprehensive discovery service for researchers around the world. With full text search for most content in its single unified index, the Summon™ service provides a superior discovery experience by allowing researchers to search its more than 750 million records optimized for discovery using the Summon™ service’s exclusive match and merge process.

Recognized as the Best Enterprise Search Solution at the 2011 CODiE Awards by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Summon™ service offers the most compelling user experience by providing an easy and open discovery experience.
