The Summon discovery service took top honors at the 2011 CODiE Award ceremony in San Francisco today when it was named the Best Enterprise Search Solution. Highly competitive and much coveted industry prizes, CODiES are presented annually by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) and are designed to recognize exceptional products and services. Information industry professionals named the Summon service winner after a rigorous evaluation using a standardized set of criteria, including usability, content, technology and visual interface.

"The Summon service’s innovative approach and unique technological architecture were driven by an intense focus on the needs of customers and as a result, it has redefined 'discovery' for the library and its users," said Michael Gersch, ProQuest senior vice-president and general manager of Serials Solutions. "Customers tell us about the impact it's making in their institutions and now to have our peers in the industry recognize it this way is really the icing on the cake. We're absolutely honored."

The Summon service was launched in 2009, bringing the simple, easy, fast and familiar searching found on the open web to library searching. A cornerstone of the Summon service is its unified index, which makes the full breadth of a library's collection–from print to e-resources at the article level–easily discoverable from a single search box and allows a user to be presented with single set of relevancy ranked search results. Now in use in hundreds of major academic libraries around the world, the Summon service is bringing students back to the library as the starting point for research and is enabling libraries to earn a greater return on their collection investments through significant increases in usage of their library collections.

The ProQuest family of businesses has received nine CODiE Awards since 1986, making it one of the most honored enterprises serving the library community. The CODiE Awards are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. Now in its twenty-sixth year, the CODiE Awards program has raised the standard for excellence and serves as prestigious representation of outstanding achievement and vision in the software and information industry.
