ProQuest's Peter Tribble elected to OpenSolaris Governing Board
ProQuest congratulates Peter Tribble, Senior UNIX Systems Administrator, Global Infrastructure Operations at ProQuest on his election to the 2009/2010 OpenSolaris Governing Board. OpenSolaris is an operating system, an open source project licensed under CDDL, and a community. The project's goals are innovation, collaboration, and the extension of OpenSolaris technology.
Peter Tribble said, ‘I'm delighted that my peers in the OpenSolaris community trust me to help govern the community, and I'm looking forward to being able to help more people get involved in the community as we move forward.’
Peter Tribble will continue in his current role in ProQuest as well as sitting on the OpenSolaris Governing Board. The OpenSolaris Governing Board manages and directs the OpenSolaris community in its efforts to improve upon and advocate in favor of OpenSolaris. The Board maintains the community’s constitution, oversees membership, resolves disputes, troubleshoots community problems, and enables and facilitates the people in the community to work with minimal interference.
Peter Tribble has been a member of ProQuest for almost three years. Peter was awarded a Physics degree and a Doctorate in Theoretical Astrophysics from Oxford University, and was active in astrophysics research in Toronto and Cambridge before a change in career path to systems administration. Peter worked for the MRC providing a national bioinformatics service for scientists working on the Human Genome Project for over a decade, followed by a short stint at the University of Hertfordshire. Peter was a beta tester for Solaris 7, 8, 9 and 10 and a founder member of the OpenSolaris project. Peter is one of the top 3 external contributors to the OpenSolaris codebase, a member of the London OpenSolaris User Group and was also awarded a Sun Innovation Award in 2009 for his SolView systems information viewer.
