New ProQuest Website Celebrates Excellence in Graduate Education
Today, ProQuest is introducing the Hall of Scholars, a website designed to showcase the recipients of Distinguished Dissertation and Thesis Awards. Over the past 20 years, ProQuest/UMI has been the proud sponsor of Dissertation and Thesis Awards in the U.S. and Canada, which recognize academic excellence among all the dissertations and theses that are produced each year. The Hall of Scholars will highlight recipients of awards given in partnership with the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS), Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS), Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS), Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS), Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS), and the Council for Historically Black Graduate Schools (CHBGS), which honor those who make a significant contribution to their field of study or academic discipline.

We hope the Hall of Scholars will inspire future generations of researchers.”
The new Hall of Scholars provides recognition to outstanding scholars and their advisors, programs and deans. In addition, awardees will be encouraged to share their personal and academic experiences related to the pursuit of their graduate degrees – providing a single point for other students to find information about how the authors of outstanding dissertations achieved their goals.
At launch, the Hall of Scholars will celebrate the recipients of the Distinguished Dissertation Awards being presented at the CGS Annual Conference in San Francisco, California on December 5. The winners include Kristel Renee Smentek who earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Art History in 2008 from University of Delaware, and Mark Julin Kiel who earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Cell and Developmental Biology) in 2008 from the University of Michigan.
