Serials Solutions® 360 Search Federated Search Service Now Offers Single-Sign On for Shibboleth and Athens Authentication Methods
Serials Solutions has announced Single Sign-On (SSO) access control for the Serials Solutions® 360 Search federated search service. The SSO authentication capability ensures that librarians can serve their remote users with the same level of consideration and access as they do local users.
Many subscription resources now are protected using Athens or Shibboleth authentication methods and 360 Search is compatible with both. When SSO is activated in 360 Search, library users only have to authenticate once per browsing session and are able to easily move between the 360 Search interface and native resource interfaces without re-entering login information.
In a recent implementation at the London School of Economics, 360 Search was configured as a Shibboleth-protected service, enabling the library to prompt users to enter their SSO login in order to access the service.
“Serials Solutions is committed to helping librarians provide easy access to their library’s resources,” says Stephen DiStasio, Product Manager for Serials Solutions. “SSO makes it easier for users to access the full breadth of their institutions’ electronic collections and services, whether they are a remote or local user.”
Michael Fake, ILS systems manager at LSE, says “We are very pleased by Serials Solutions’ prompt implementation of 360 Search and the development of Single Sign-On for the benefit of our users. What we’ve seen so far has exceeded our expectations.”
