Serials Solutions® Launches the 360 Counter E-Resource Assessment Service

Serials Solutions Launches the 360 Counter E-Resource Assessment Service

Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest Company, today announced the launch of the 360 Counter e-resource assessment service. 360 Counter helps libraries evaluate the usage and cost of e-resources to optimize the value of electronic collections.

360 Counter aggregates Project COUNTER usage reports, incorporates costs, calculates  cost-per-click per title, and compares content providers. 360 Counter’s reporting tools then enable users to custom-tailor cost and usage reports for in-depth analysis of e-resources that facilitate better collection-development decisions.

“Despite the widespread availability of usage statistics from content providers, it has been extremely challenging for libraries to collect and meaningfully analyze this data to understand the cost and value of e-resources,” says Susan Golden, Serials Solutions Product Manager. “360 Counter makes assessment of this data fast and easy to understand, so libraries can quickly make decisions that better their collections.”

360 Counter dramatically reduces the time required to process and analyze usage data from COUNTER-compliant reports. 360 Counter aggregates report data, inserts costs, associates subjects, normalizes titles, calculates costs, and automates data in e-collection reports received from content providers for analysis and reporting. Using 360 Counter, librarians spend significantly less time completing these steps and have more time to analyze custom-tailored reports that 360 Counter produces. These reports can easily be exported and archived for historical perspective.

As with other Serials Solutions 360 services, 360 Counter is integrated with the authoritative Serials Solutions knowledgebase, which provides normalized journal titles and holdings data for accurate analysis.  In addition, 360 Counter retrieves local e-resource cost information from Serials Solutions 360 Resource Manager for cost-per-use reporting.

Initial implementations of Serials Solutions 360 Counter will be available to users beginning on November 30. Unlimited support and free training is included with the vendor-hosted software.
