“The Gold Standard for Early Modern Scholarship”: EEBO Joins the ProQuest Platform
Early English Books Online’s 146,000 titles and integrated transcripts are now searchable with all other content on the ProQuest platform, including journals, news, video and more.
ProQuest’s flagship Early English Books Online (EEBO) has officially moved to the ProQuest platform, making materials from the 1400s through to 1700s discoverable and cross-searchable with scholarly journals, news, historical documents, video and other relevant sources.
For years, EEBO has been considered a foundational resource for libraries supporting the research, teaching and learning of early modern scholarship. Through the incorporation of the Text Creation Partnership (TCP) texts – an innovative collaboration between ProQuest, the University of Michigan, Oxford University and others – full-text searching on EEBO has improved the discoverability of materials. The TCP has transcribed almost half of the entire corpus of EEBO.
“Early English Books Online has long played a critical role in the scholarship being done at the University of California and beyond, and its recent migration to the enhanced ProQuest platform now allows for even deeper and broader research,” said Jane Faulkner, Literature Librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“To our faculty and graduate student researchers, EEBO is an indispensable resource for its depth, scope, and functionality, second to none in the richness of its content,” she said. “To our students, it offers a rewarding first foray into the world of primary source documents. And to academic librarians, EEBO remains the gold standard resource for early modern scholarship.”
Users will have access to EEBO on both Chadwyck-Healey and the ProQuest platforms through the end of 2019 to support scholars with a smooth transition. In January 2020, we’ll decommission the EEBO legacy URL, and redirects will point remaining users to the new version of the product on the ProQuest platform.
The ProQuest Platform was awarded The Charleston Advisor’s Annual Readers’ Choice Award for Best Interface.
