ProQuest Integrates Ebook Data with Talis Aspire, Simplifying Reading List Workflows

ProQuest has collaborated with Talis, a SAGE Publishing Company, to integrate ProQuest Ebook Central platform pricing and holdings data into Talis Aspire

CAMBRIDGE, UK, November 19, 2020 – ProQuest has collaborated with Talis, a SAGE Publishing Company, to integrate ProQuest Ebook Central® platform pricing and holdings data into Talis Aspire, a tool used by libraries to create and manage resource lists to support university curriculum.

Using Talis Aspire, faculty can create reading lists for their courses and send these lists to the library for review and purchase. Now, when a requested book is available through the ProQuest Ebook Central platform, Talis Aspire will display prices, available access models and information on what the library already owns, avoiding duplication.

To further simplify the library workflow, Talis Aspire will also include a link to the book’s full record in LibCentral, the Ebook Central administrative portal, where librarians can immediately make a purchase.

“Reading lists are, of course an essential piece of academic life for us – and having the Ebook Central information flowing directly into Talis, the very tool we use to manage this important workflow, makes the purchasing experience exponentially more efficient and convenient,” said Maria Allan, Acquisitions Librarian, King’s College London.

“Offering purchasing and holdings information from Ebook Central directly within Talis Aspire is a new feature that will make life easier for our users,” said Keji Adedeji, Head of Product at Talis. “Now, there’s no need for librarians to leave Talis Aspire to check this data. This has been requested by our Talis Aspire users and we’re pleased to work with ProQuest to make their valuable ebook content more widely available and affordable to libraries and their users.”

“ProQuest is committed to getting essential digital content to our users as quickly and seamlessly as possible,” said David Parker, Vice President of Product Management for ProQuest Books. “Integrating our ebook pricing and purchase options into Talis Aspire is an idea that came directly from several customers through our Idea Exchange forum, and we’re thrilled to see it come to fruition. This will not only simplify the acquisition workflow for librarians – it will also make a huge difference in providing students and faculty friction-free access to the content they need.”
