Evaluation process determined that hosted solution would be preferable to locally managed system

California Digital Library (CDL) has chosen Serials Solutions® 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter to manage and assess the CDL’s electronic resources and shared licensing activities.

CDL’s rigorous evaluation process, including a detailed set of functional and business requirements, determined that a hosted solution would be preferable to a locally managed system for operational and staffing reasons. After in-house demonstrations and testing, CDL chose 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter, citing Serials Solutions for the following reasons:

  • A superior knowledgebase
  • Serials Solutions’ experience operating a hosted solution
  • The ability to operate 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter in a web-based environment without the need for dedicated client software
  • Company commitment to open standards and interoperability
  • An agile development process
  • Demonstrated vendor responsiveness
  • The significantly lower cost of services

“We look forward to working with Serials Solutions throughout our implementation,” says Lena Zentall, ERMS Project Manager at CDL, “We anticipate that Serials Solutions will be highly responsive to our requirements and will provide expert consultation to support our transition.”

Says Jane Burke, General Manager of Serials Solutions, “We look forward to serving the CDL to meet the need of library campuses, and assisting the library in growing and managing both local and consortium collections.”

CDL has signed a 5-year subscription agreement for 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter. 360 Resource Manager will allow the library to control licensing, e-resource lifecycles, cost, collections, overlap analysis and more, using Serials Solutions’ integrated KnowledgeWorks knowledgebase. CDL has also purchased Serials Solutions 360 Counter e-resource assessment service to provide accurate, COUNTER-compliant usage analysis of cost data tracked within 360 Resource Manager. All ten University of California campuses will have read-only access to CDL data tracked in both 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter.
