Social Science Premium Collection and Disability in the Modern World Named Outstanding Academic Titles
Choice Magazine’s prestigious 2020 list includes two unique databases from ProQuest
Two ProQuest resources, the Social Science Premium Collection and Disability in the Modern World, have been named to Choice Magazine’s highly acclaimed Outstanding Academic Titles (OAT) list for 2020.
Choice is a publication of the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. Its prestigious annual OAT list reflects the best scholarly titles reviewed by Choice and brings with it the extraordinary recognition of the academic library community. The OAT list is quite selective: it contains approximately 10 percent of some 6,000 works reviewed in Choice each year.
Disability in the Modern World is a landmark collection of primary sources covering the history of the social movements surrounding disability. Its comprehensive and international set of resources enrich studies in a wide range of disciplines, from media studies to philosophy.
Social Science Premium Collection is a comprehensive set of full-text and A&I resources ranges across social science disciplines and includes multi-format content like journal articles, books and dissertations. Its thorough subject coverage includes criminology, education, library and information science, linguistics, politics and sociology.
A complete list of winners was published in Choice’s December 2020 issue. Here’s what Choice had to say about their two ProQuest selections in 2020.
Disability in the Modern World (see review abstract): “No other products directly compete with Disability in the Modern World, given its special focus on disability studies…supporting diverse scholarship, Disability in the Modern World helps address a pressing need to further examine the history of disability through ‘a thoughtfully curated mix of primary and secondary sources from the field.’ Summing up: Highly recommended [for] lower-division undergraduates through faculty.”
Social Science Premium Collection (see review abstract): “This broad range of content is…one of SSPC’s chief strengths, as is the inclusion of discipline-standard A&I databases, notably ERIC (covering education) and Sociological Abstracts…SSPC also benefits from a robust, flexible search interface…No one competitive product includes the social science A&I databases and thesauri included with SSPC. Summing up: Essential [for] lower-division undergraduates through faculty.”
Many ProQuest products have been named Choice Outstanding Academic Titles in previous years – including ProQuest One Academic, the Digital National Security Archive, Academic Complete, and Queen Victoria's Journals (among others).
