Three radio programs that brought a voice to Latinx issues

Latinx Thought and Culture: The NPR Archive, 1979-1990 showcases three radio programs: the weekly Spanish-language Enfoque Nacional (1979-1988), the weekly Spanish-language Panorama Hispano (1984-1987), and the daily English-language Latin File (1988-1990), available for the first time in a searchable database as digitized audio with transcripts. They focus on Latinx issues related to politics, sociology, human rights, the arts and more with interviews of key figures and news reporting by a new generation of Latino/a journalists at the time.

These radio shows are an invaluable resource for scholars, students, and the general public. Crucial to the understanding of American media and public media history, the archive is equally important to the study of Latinx culture and identity. Each episode provides a glimpse of the American past from a unique perspective. The nearly 1,100 episodes chronicle the most important events - political, legal and cultural - of interest to the Latinx communities in the United States.

This archive includes 500 episodes (30 minutes each) of Enfoque Nacional with coverage from 1979 to 1988, 160 episodes (30 minutes each) of Panorama Hispano with coverage from 1988-1990, and 414 episodes (15 minutes each) of Latin File from 1988-1990.
