Four Major Public Universities in Valencia Sign a Joint Contract with Ex Libris to Modernize Their Library Systems and Promote Rapid Growth with Ex Libris Alma and Primo

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the Valencian consortium have together selected the Alma library services platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution.

BARCELONA, SPAIN, March 5, 2020 – Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of Valencia, the University of Alicante, Jaume I University, and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, all public universities in Valencia, Spain, have together selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. A consortium of public university libraries will be created, enabling the member institutions to have a shared catalog and to collaborate in areas such as acquisitions and staff training.

The four universities sought a solution that would facilitate system integration, unify the management of resources, improve content management, and make information more accessible. The Alma library platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution  will provide services that are specifically designed to handle shared electronic and print resources and offer robust capabilities for streamlining workflows and effectively managing the universities’ collections. By unifying queries and integrating with other technologies used by the libraries, the Alma platform will help the libraries fulfill their strategy of improving services.

The library directors of all four universities agree that the Ex Libris expertise in the management and dissemination of library content and the exciting possibilities of the products’ roadmaps were paramount to the universities’ decision.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, “Ex Libris is proud to welcome the universities of Valencia and Alicante, the Jaume I University, and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche to the Alma and Primo user communities. We look forward to supporting the expansion of these universities’ libraries as they benefit from the operational efficiencies afforded by the consortium that they are forming.”

About the Valencian Consortium

For the first time in Valencia, public universities have joined together to sign a contract for upgrading their library systems. This cooperative project will strengthen the libraries economically and technologically, will foster collaboration between them, and will signify the beginning of a consortium of Valencian public university libraries. The consortium will consist of the University of Valencia, the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), the University of Alicante, Jaume I University, and the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche.

UPV already uses the Ex Libris Alma library services, and by the end of 2020, the other four Valencian public university libraries will be working with the Alma platform as well.
