National Taiwan University Opts for Ex Libris Alma Library Services

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce National Taiwan University has chosen the Alma library services platform to replace the school’s library management system.

TAIWAN, Japan, January 16, 2018 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that National Taiwan University (NTU) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform to replace the school’s library management system. In addition, NTU’s local implementation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution will be migrated to the cloud and integrated with the Alma platform. Through the software-as-a-service model, the university library services will enjoy benefit from the real-time synchronization and automatic updates of the Alma and Primo software solutions.

The evaluation process for the library platform focused on several main requirements: open access, flexibility, extension capabilities and plug-ins, support for traditional Chinese characters, and adaptability to accommodate the library’s specific needs. Furthermore, as NTU embarks on a restructuring of its library and the adoption of the Resource Description and Access (RDA) standard, Alma’s support for this standard will facilitate the review and streamlining of workflows and processes.

Hui-Hua Chen, the division director of the IT Services Division at NTU Library, commented, “Most important, we are impressed by the diverse flexible options that Alma provides. Using the open platform, we will be able to develop services on top of Alma and Primo. The mature API environment not only makes such development easy but is also available free of charge. Another major benefit is the local support provided by Ex Libris, including a Taiwanese-based distributor and staff and the availability of product documentation in traditional Chinese characters."

Ziv BenZvi, vice president of Ex Libris Asia Pacific, said, “We are happy to welcome National Taiwan University to our Alma and Primo communities. We are proud that our stable, cloud-based solutions will be the backbone of an ultramodern library that is almost 90 years old.”
