Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées Chooses Ex Libris Alma and Primo

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées has chosen the Alma library services platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution.

PARIS, France, August 30, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution to manage and expose its expanding collections. The Ex Libris solutions will replace the SirsiDynix Horizon™ integrated library system, in use since 1995.

The Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées is in charge of managing the Academy of Toulouse (previously the Academy of the Midi-Pyrénées region) academic library network. Starting in the mid-1990s, this network saw substantial growth in the demand for and use of electronic resources. This change in the nature of its collections and services originally led the network to acquire additional software components to manage electronic and digital resources and make them discoverable, resulting in a siloed system with redundant workflows.

In this context and in partnership with l’Agence bibliographique française de l’enseignement supérieur (ABES) and eight other higher education institutions (Université de Bordeaux Service de coopération documentaire, Cité des sciences et de l’Industrie Universcience, Université de Clermont-Ferrand Blaise Pascal, Université du Havre, Université de Lille 3, Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, BIU de Montpellier, and Université Paris-Descartes), the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées began a thorough evaluation of solutions, concluding with the selection of Alma and Primo to unify both the management of the libraries and access to their collections.

Catherine Roussy, director of the Library Cooperation department at l’Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées, explained, “In our selection of Alma and Primo, we were influenced by the large number of institutions, particularly consortia, that are already using these solutions and the excellent reputation of those institutions. The robustness of the solutions’ infrastructure, the comprehensiveness of the API library, and the products’ roadmap will support the development of new digital resources for users, the use of web data, and the reuse and enrichment of metadata produced by all content providers. We look forward to reorganising our services, managing acquisitions and reporting centrally, and streamlining our workflows for all types of resources.”

In addition, the libraries will benefit from more efficient and coherent analytics regarding their use of resources and the ability to better integrate their library services platform with their wider campus systems.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, “The close integration of the Alma platform with Primo brings tangible value to libraries and consortia of all sizes. The openness of our solutions and our extensive APIs make Alma and Primo an ideal basis for the development of new services and integrations.”
