OASIS Operates with Alma and Alexander Street

ProQuest Oasis integrates assets from Alma and Alexander Street for more streamlined ordering for librarians and complementary videos for users.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, June 23, 2017 – ProQuest is simplifying workflows for librarians with two initiatives that bring together complementary assets to enrich its OASIS® search, select and order system.

  • In the first integration, an enhanced Alma™ API will enable all OASIS order information to be transferred to Ex Libris’ renowned library management system, saving time and reducing the potential for order duplication.
  • A second integration lets librarians order from Alexander Street’s vast DVD content via OASIS, embedding the popular medium within their book acquisition workflow.

"Our goal is to continually eliminate pain points and bottlenecks in library workflows," said Kevin Sayar, Senior Vice President and General Manager, ProQuest Books. "The integrations of Alma API and Alexander Street’s DVD content with OASIS are each elements in ProQuest’s larger plan to create streamlined processes so librarians can spend more time advancing their mission."

The OASIS system saves librarians’ time with ordering, tracking and invoicing content — print, ebook and DVDs — in the subjects they need. The integration with Alexander Street on OASIS enables librarians to curate collections from a selection of more than 10,000 DVD titles that complement student learning and faculty research across all major discipline areas, including many where resources are scarce.

For libraries with the Alma™ management system, all orders in OASIS are transferred to Alma via an enhanced API that’s available at no additional cost. Benefits include:

  • Order data insertion into Alma so staff and students can see what is on order
  • Streamlined information flow from OASIS to Alma that eliminates slow FTP data transfer
  • Improved staff productivity through time savings
  • Data accuracy

The new integrations are the latest in a series of enrichments that enable the OASIS platform to simplify workflows and support faster and better collection development. Other recent advancements include access to premier publisher ebook platforms and value-add features such as a DDA MARC removal service, DDA add button, new title awards profile and collections support.
