Ex Libris Alma and Primo to Provide Next-Generation Library Services to Britain’s University of Central Lancashire

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce UCLan will be implementing the Alma library management service combined with the Primo discovery and delivery solution.

LONDON, UK, March 8, 2017 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will be implementing the Ex Libris Alma® library management service combined with the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution to meet the needs and expectations of the library’s increasingly digital-native community of users.

The library environment at UCLan has significantly changed over the past decade as the nature of the student population and of scholarly resources has evolved. UCLan therefore decided to acquire a library services platform that manages digital resources, metadata, and licenses in addition to print collections. Together, the Alma and Primo solutions will provide high-quality services to the entire university community—teaching staff, students, and library teams.

James Crooks, acting director of learning and information services at UCLan, said, “One of the university’s strategic aims is to create an inspirational student experience. To this end, we are investing in cutting-edge solutions that will help our teaching staff support and motivate our students. We see Alma and Primo as bringing us a technologically advanced study and work environment that will enhance student success and raise the effectiveness of our academic and library staff.”

Through the seamless workflows between Alma and Primo, UCLan anticipates simplifying the library’s processes and increasing its efficiency, thus enabling librarians to address new information and service needs. The library’s ability to provide users with a rapid, seamless delivery of resources of all types and to leverage advanced analytics will increase the library’s value to the university while enhancing the students' discovery and learning experience.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, “We are pleased to welcome UCLan to our ever-growing European Alma and Primo communities. Ex Libris looks forward to collaborating with the university as it implements Alma and Primo to optimize library services and processes and satisfy the rising demand for e-resources.”
