University of Deusto Library Becomes the First in Spain to Choose Ex Libris Alma

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the University of Deusto has selected a suite of Ex Libris resource management discovery, and delivery solutions.

BARCELONA, SPAIN, May 18, 2016 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of Deusto will be replacing its AMICUS library management system with Ex Libris Alma® and will migrate from an on-premises discovery system to a SaaS implementation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution. Students, instructors, researchers, and library staff will all benefit from the Alma-Primo combination.

“Our current ILS has been in use for a number of years, but its print-focused design means that several different external systems are necessary for handling digital collections and various library tasks. As a result, back-office processes are fragmented and divided among a number of teams,” said Library Director Nieves Taranco Del Barrio.

“The university has a strategic goal of enabling librarians to focus on providing better services for all library users—in particular, helping librarians develop new user-facing services that support research and user training,” she continued. “Alma and Primo SaaS will assist us in achieving this goal by increasing efficiency in the management and delivery of print and e-resources via streamlined workflows.”

Additional factors in the library’s decision to adopt the Alma and Primo combination include the Ex Libris vendor-neutral approach to content, the close integration of Primo and Alma, and the rich analytics that Alma provides. Alma analytics will help the library save on costs and ensure that acquisitions are both optimal and timely.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented: “We welcome the University of Deusto to our large and growing customer base in Europe and the active community of global Alma users. We are delighted that a Spanish university has opted for the next-generation Alma-Primo solution to improve library workflows and effectively handle the management and discovery of the library’s collections, both print and digital.”
