ProQuest Launches Innovative Catalog Enrichment Tool
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, October 11, 2016 – ProQuest is launching Syndetics Unbound™, a new catalog enrichment service that combines and reimagines two best-of-breed technologies, the Syndetic Solutions™ service and the LibraryThing for Libraries system.
By allowing libraries to easily embed rich information and guided discovery directly into their existing catalogs, Syndetics Unbound helps transform the traditional online catalog into a dynamic, attractive showcase. Patrons get a modern, convenient experience that includes expansive coverage of global books and media.
- Summaries, professional and reader reviews, with “read-alikes” and browsable tags, series, awards, book profiles and reading levels help patrons find the perfect book, movie, recording or video game.
- A new premium cover service makes browsing the catalog intuitive and friendly. Libraries can also take advantage of “book display widgets,” a simple but flexible virtual display-shelf for library home pages, email newsletters, Facebook and other social sites.
For librarians, Syndetics Unbound is designed to use right out of the box, with no customization needed and an easy-to-use admin tool that provides element configuration, holdings management, and coverage and usage reports. It also helps libraries maximize their acquisitions budget by putting all materials within easy reach.
A single, integrated product, the level of readers’ advisory support and catalog enrichment offered by Syndetics Unbound is so extensive that it would require multiple packages from other vendors—with no guarantee that they would work together. Syndetics Unbound delivers it all in one subscription that’s mindful of library budget concerns.
For patrons, Syndetics Unbound is easy and engaging. Data from ProQuest’s Syndetic Solutions integrates with the reader tools in LibraryThing for Libraries for rating, sharing and reviewing books they’ve read. Most importantly it brings patrons the features they expect from everyday web use. The mobile-optimized user interface works on smartphones and tablets so patrons can easily connect to the library wherever they are.
“Research shows the more dynamic experiences a patron has with the library, the more valuable the library is to the patron,” said Kevin Sayar, Senior Vice President and General Manager, ProQuest Books. “Syndetics Unbound gives patrons and libraries a unique opportunity to build a relationship, and provides a way for patrons to get more information, better recommendations and have a more engaging experience.”
