Seattle – Aug 2, 2011 – Serials Solutions®, a business unit of ProQuest® LLC, announced today that Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan has adopted the Summon™ web-scale discovery service. The Summon™ service will provide Kyushu’s users a single search point for discovery across library resources.

“Serials Solutions recently announced its sophisticated Japanese-language search functionality, demonstrating its commitment to improving the discovery experience for both librarians and patrons in Japan,” said John Law, vice president of discovery solutions at Serials Solutions. “We are pleased to count Kyushu University among our new customers and have been working closely with them to optimize the indexing of Japanese-language materials and our Japanese-language interface.”

Branded by Kyushu as Cute.Search, the Summon™ service has been integrated with the university’s new catalog interface, Cute.Catalog, which contains library collections and the comprehensive metadata of scholarly outputs written by university students and faculty, and utilizes the eXtensible Catalog (XC) open source software. The two services are integrated to harvest local records from Cute.Catalog and display live circulation status of those records within Cute.Search making it easy for users to search Kyushu’s global academic resources and quickly find and access the information they need.

“The Summon service greatly improves our users’ ability to follow the latest trends in their respective research fields, and discover that information quickly and easily from our website,” said Shin Kataoka, systems librarian at Kyushu University. “By providing our users one single, easy-to-use gateway for discovering and retrieving academic information, we are able to not only enhance their research experience, but promote closer communications between students and researchers.”

Currently, the Summon™ service allows researchers to search full-text content from more than 7,000 providers and contains more than 750 million records. First introduced to the industry in July 2009, the Summon™ web-scale discovery service provides proven value to more than 250 libraries worldwide, many of whom are seeing extraordinary increases in the use of their library’s collections.

Recognized as the Best Enterprise Search Solution at the 2011 CODiE Awards by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Summon™ service delivers the most compelling user experience by providing an easy and open discovery experience. With a single unified index, the Summon™ service provides instant access to the full breadth of authoritative content that is the hallmark of great libraries.
