ProQuest and The Times of India Partnership Significantly Expands International Content in Historical Archive

News release regarding The Times of India, the world’s largest circulated English daily newspaper, and its addition to ProQuest Historical Newspapers™, which dramatically expanded the international content in this acclaimed archive. From March 8, 2010.

“We’re particularly excited about bringing The Times of India—our 29th major newspaper archive—into this collection because it enriches the research experience with truly international content,” said Rod Gauvin, Senior Vice President, ProQuest. “This is the kind of diverse content that introduces researchers—whether it’s a student or an historian—to a new perspective on world events… the kind of perspectives that can lead to ‘Eureka’ moments.”

The Times of India will join other seminal papers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal in the world's largest digital newspaper archive, adding coverage of historic world news from a unique perspective. Founded in 1838 to serve the British residents of West India, The Times of India now circulates more than four million copies, covering almost eight million readers. Librarians and historians value its full coverage of such topics as the British Raj, Gandhi, Independence and Partition. As part of ProQuest Historical Newspapers, it provides exceptional depth to the study of colonial and post-colonial times, class and gender issues, religion, as well as international economics, international relations and culture influence research.

“At Times Group we believe in creating value and customer delight in whatever we do. The tie-up with ProQuest – the first-ever initiative of its kind by any Indian newspaper, will allow our valued readers to access our archived content at the click of a mouse” said Sidhant Khosla, Director, Corporate Group, of Bennett Coleman and Company Limited.

The Times of India’s digital content is part of ProQuest's continually expanding support of global research. ProQuest’s news content is among the world’s most extensive troves of primary source information, including more than 900 current newspapers and 300 editorially-vetted blogs from around the world, ProQuest Historical Newspapers™—25 million pages of news dating from 1764—and content from more than 300 U.S. and international broadcast news outlets. With an all-new platform in the works for 2010, the breadth of this content will be integrated and available through a single search, creating a robust new avenue for research.
