ProQuest has teamed with The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio) to create an online video archive of the Paley Center’s acclaimed seminars presenting the leading names in media discussing the creative process, contemporary issues in production, life inside the industry and many other media-studies relevant topics. A full 105 hours of sought-after video, along with full transcription, are now available, and present the leading names in media discussing the creative process, contemporary issues in production, life inside the industry and many other media studies topics. The Paley Center Seminars examine the creative forces behind great entertainment with some of the top celebrities and creative talent in television drama and comedy while also exploring areas such as the art documentary filmmaking and the impact of an evolving media landscape on journalism.

“ProQuest’s  publishing strategy focuses on helping libraries meet their users’ expectations and keeping up with the latest trends in academic studies,” said Mary Sauer-Games, vice president of publishing for ProQuest. “Multimedia has become a standard in online content today and the area of media studies is one of the fastest growing areas in the academic curriculum. We’re pleased to partner with renowned institutions like the Paley Center to combine these developments by bringing users ProQuest enhanced video experiences in support of the serious study of the media.”

“The Paley Center for Media explores the role media plays in our lives and shaping the events of our time. We are proud to partner with such an innovative educational technology company like ProQuest to provide our content for the first time to the academic community. As the leading interpreter of media within our society, this is a unique opportunity to expand our education programs online and beyond our two physical locations in New York and Los Angeles,” added Pat Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of The Paley Center for Media.

Subscribers can look forward to insightful reflections on movie editing, analyses of women in television drama as well as representations of gay and lesbian characters. Panel discussions with the casts and creators of current hit television programs (including ‘Lost’, ‘House’, ‘24’ and ‘South Park’) and television classics (‘M*A*S*H’ and ‘Columbo’) are also featured. Key political and historical events create a fascinating lens through which to view contemporary media and American society. Documentaries address the politics of reportage in international conflicts (such as ‘Darfur Now’ and ‘Truth and the Iraq War’), advertising campaigns for presidential elections (‘Madison Avenue goes to Washington’), politics and civil liberties (‘Larry Flynt: The Right To Be Left Alone’) and American-Cuban relations (‘American Experience: Fidel Castro’).

On completion, the Paley Center Seminars will include more than 310 hours of video. A further 30 to 50 new seminars will also be added throughout each year to ensure that the content remains up-to-date and continues to reflect the latest television programs and current issues. The Paley Center Seminars are the authoritative choice for media scholars and students seeking interviews with high profile industry insiders, discussions of critical contemporary topics involving the media (with audience interaction), unlimited, on-demand access to video for research anytime and anywhere, and downloadable seminars and clip-making features for teaching and learning.
