New Features, Terms, Content in ABI/INFORM® Give Researchers an Edge in Surfacing Results

ProQuest is adding new features and new index terms to ABI/INFORM® business database, a leading digital gateway to more than 4,000 business journals.

ProQuest is adding new features and new index terms to ABI/INFORM&reg business database, a leading digital gateway to more than 4,000 business journals.  A new "browse" feature helps to surface the content most sought after by users, and new subject indexing terms serve an increasingly global user base.   ABI/INFORM has recently expanded with new content from Oxford Analytica , Business Monitor International (BMI) , Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and will soon include First Research reports from Dun and Bradstreet and EIU  World Commodity reports.

“ABI/INFORM has long been one of the most comprehensive sources of business information available, and we’re constantly building upon that legacy” said Jeff Wilensky, vice president of publishing for ProQuest.  “As users’ needs evolve, we’re growing trusted information sources, like ABI/INFORM, with features, terms, and content to further enhance the search experience.”

A new “browse” tab will help users quickly find and zero in on highly sought information such as market research reports and articles, industry reports, company information and annual reports, country reports, commodity reports, dissertations, and working papers.  The browse tab will also include quick links, which help users quickly drill down to results based on a variety of content types, such as SWOT analyses, market share, industry trends and forecasts, and CEO profiles and interviews.

To address an ever-widening set of international users and business globalization, the controlled vocabulary in ABI/INFORM is expanding to include more globally focused business terminology, including numerous commonly used terms from Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries.  As a result, searchers seamlessly uncover more content that’s unique and insightful.  With these latest additions, users outside of the United States can use natural language searching within the ProQuest Thesaurus to quickly and easily find the index terms they need.  For instance, a search of “Home reversion plans” points the user to the term “Reverse mortgages,” enabling an accurate and concise search as well as helping users narrow or broaden their search by suggesting related terms.

ABI/INFORM is expanding with new content to provide users with the latest information on the global business world.  Daily Briefing Service and Country Reports from Oxford Analytica provide current analysis of worldwide business and economic events and in-depth economic, political and geographical outlook. Country Finance and Forecast reports from Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) include country-focused reporting of financial conditions, techniques, and regulations and 5-year economic and business forecasts. First Research reports from Dun and Bradstreet provide US-focused industry reports on products, operations, technology, competition, indicators, finance, regulation and news.  Lastly, EIU World Commodity reports offer quarterly and annual reports of hard and soft commodity fundamentals and forecasts up to 2 years.
