JISC Collections partners with ProQuest to make over two centuries of British Periodicals available to universities, colleges and research councils in the UK
ProQuest is pleased to announce a new agreement with JISC Collections to make British Periodicals collections I and II available to the UK academic and research community from January 2009. This purchase by JISC Collections on behalf of its members will provide access to two significant collections of British journals from the seventeenth to the early twentieth century, covering a diverse range of subjects - from the arts and humanities to science and the social sciences.
British Periodicals traces the development and growth of the periodical press in Britain from its origins in the seventeenth century through to the Victorian ‘age of periodicals’ and beyond. This digital archive will consist of almost 500 periodical runs published from the 1680s to the 1930s, comprising six million keyword-searchable pages and providing a rich record of more than two centuries of British history and culture.

From January 2009 academics, teaching staff, researchers and students at subscribing institutions will be able to access and cross search over 450 journals of content in British Periodicals in addition to the 80 journals in the Periodicals Archive Online collection purchased by JISC Collections earlier this year.
