Serials Solutions Offers New Custom Links for Article Linker
Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest Information and Learning, has announced the addition of two new customizable features to its OpenURL link resolver, Article Linker: one-touch export to Refworks and “Find in Print” using WorldCat. Both are available as links that can be easily added to Article Linker’s results page.
Serials Solutions’ Article Linker provides patrons with the best path from citations and references to full-text articles wherever they are available in a library’s collection. The straightforward interface delivers fast and easy access to full-text articles from 57,000 unique journal titles in more than 750 databases. Article Linker custom links give libraries additional options to guide their patrons to other full text resources when Article Linker cannot access a particular full text article. By placing library-defined conditions on these custom links, the library can control their patron’s experience, leading them to full-text alternatives in the order they deem appropriate. For example, a library may choose to display a link to “Find in Print” with WorldCat only if no online or on-site full-text records are found.

By activating one-touch export to Refworks, Article Linker customers enable simple transfer of citation data from Article Linker to Refworks, an Internet-based bibliographic citation manager. Article Linker joins seamlessly with the Refworks interface to give users quick entry to easy citation storage and management.
“The ability to export to RefWorks completes the circle by making it easy for our users to save references,” says Virginia Kinman, Electronic Resources Librarian for Greenwood Library at Longwood University, and one of Article Linker’s 572 subscribers. “It’s a great feature and so easy to set up. I emailed support and asked to have a custom link configured. It was up and running within 24 hours!”
