Serials Solutions' Latest Article Linker Release Enhances Usability
Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest Information and Learning, has announced the latest release of its OpenURL link resolver, Article Linker. The update offers new customizations to simplify search navigation and enhance ease-of-use. Features include smaller, APA-style citations, customizable results formatting, a brandable 1-Click Helper Frame, and library-specific error pages.
Serials Solutions’ Article Linker provides patrons with the best path from citations and references to full-text articles wherever they are available in a library’s collection. The straightforward interface delivers fast and easy access to articles from 57,000 unique journal titles in more than 800 full-text databases. Article Linker offers highly customizable search and results pages, built specially for the preferences of each Serials Solutions customer.
Serials Solutions’ newest Article Linker release includes two additional options to streamline Article Linker’s results page. An APA display format enables result citations to appear in a more compact format that cleanly condenses and simplifies the Article Linker results page to improve access to all available resources. Several of the labels in the new APA citation display format may be changed to library specification.
On the Article Linker results page, Serials Solutions now offers librarians the ability to choose the column order in which results data is displayed. Librarians can define what patrons see when they search by selecting and displaying the most important information first.

With the latest customizations, libraries can prevent dead-ends by adding helpful information such as navigation links, library graphics, and supplementary resources to both the 1-Click Helper Window and Article Linker error pages.”
The 1-Click Helper Window is displayed at the top of full-text articles reached via Article Linker’s 1-Click, a feature that enables patrons to jump directly from a known-item search to the corresponding full-text article. The new Article Linker release facilitates unlimited branding and modifications to the 1-Click Window, including options for libraries to provide recognition for their services. “Serials Solutions wants to help librarians show their patrons the value the library offers by way of their electronic resources,” says JR Jenkins, Group Product Manager at Serials Solutions. “1-Click branding reminds users that their research is made possible by the library’s support.”
