ProQuest’s “E Now” Enables Libraries to Meet Unprecedented Demand for E-Content

As the demand for remote access to content rises to unprecedented levels, ProQuest has brought together its unique capabilities and industry relationships to create a comprehensive set of programs that enable institutions to quickly transition to online-only environments. The programs, under the umbrella “E Now,” help institutions convert their physical collections to “e” – fast, accurately and affordably.

With ProQuest’s range of varied content formats, expertise, bibliographic assets and reporting capabilities, we’re positioned to help libraries and their institutions make this dramatic shift. Among our capabilities is a propriety process that maps a library’s physical items – such as books and periodicals – to e- versions contained in ProQuest’s digital archive, which spans more than 600 TBs and 1.3M ebooks. Our team of specialized analysts help libraries prioritize conversions of physical content – which also includes government documents, newspapers, and even music scores and videos – based on their institution’s curriculum and research activity.

ProQuest’s goal is to lift burden off librarians at a critical time by bringing together our data, time-tested processes and the broadest set of content in programs designed to support their current, urgent needs.

E Now launched March 13, when ProQuest partnered with publishers of more than 1,700 imprints to maximize users’ access to ebooks. Through the Unlimited Access Program, Ebook Central customers receive an unlimited access copy added to their existing ebook holdings at no extra charge. This continues through June 30. Additional programs include:

• • Ebooks P to E Program, which enables libraries to add e-versions of their print titles. A growing number of publishers are helping libraries by offering a 50% discount on the Ebook Central list price.
  • E-First, Print Later is designed for the many libraries that can’t receive shipments of the print books they’ve invested in. ProQuest uses its OASIS and Rialto capabilities to research all available options and discounts for e-versions that can be used in the interim and by remote users.
  • Historical Periodicals Program is designed to ensure users continue to have access to the library’s historical periodicals. ProQuest maps physical resources to digital versions and discounts the replacements up to 50%.
  • Music Scores Program supports music researchers and students who rely heavily on print editions—with over 50,000 online sheet music titles at up to a 50% discount.

ProQuest is continuing to develop E Now programs using market feedback, input from library and higher ed organizations and discussions with its customers around the world.
