Dissertation: The Impact of Texting and Social Media on Students’ Academic Writing Skills

Technology now dominates student learning and communication. With the move toward literacy testing and Common Core standards, students are now required to write more often than before. However, educators fear that students will draw on their most frequently utilized form of communication, texting and social media, for their sentence patterns, grammar, punctuation and word choices. The purpose of this study is to describe the types of academic writing errors committed by students influenced by texting and social media.

Journal Article: How Feminist Theory Became (Criminal) Law: Tracing the Path to Mandatory Criminal Intervention in Domestic Violence Cases

Our popular understanding of domestic violence has shifted significantly over the past 40 years, and with it, our legal response. We have moved from an interpretation of domestic violence as a private relationship problem managed through counseling techniques to an approach that configures domestic violence first and foremost as a public crime. Mandatory criminal intervention policies reflect and reinforce this interpretation. This article, from the Michigan Journal of Gender & Law, focuses on how we arrived at this point, and which understanding of domestic violence facilitated this shift.

Read about the manufacture and use of different plastics and the effects of pollution by these materials on animal, human and environmental health. Since 2004, the world has made as much plastic as it did in the previous half century. Between 1950 and 2015, a total of 6.3 billion tons of primary and secondary (recycled) plastic waste was generated, of which around 9% was recycled, 12% incinerated and 79% either stored in landfills or released directly into the natural environment.
