Have you packed your sunscreen and checked the weather report for Orlando?
Did you leave room in your luggage for the likelihood that you’ll pick up some new books?
Are you counting down the minutes to seeing your favorite authors and attending inspiring sessions about the library profession?
You’re not alone! The staff at ProQuest is thrilled about being at the upcoming American Library Association Annual Meeting, too!
In anticipation of the big event, we’re brushing up on our ALA knowledge by revisiting dissertations on the subject.
There’s been a lot of remarkable scholarship about the ALA – a search for “American Library Association” in the ProQuest Dissertations and Thesis database turns up nearly 8,000 results! Topics range from the ALA’s role in developing librarianship as a profession, and its impact on the crucial function of libraries in disseminating information and promoting literacy, to the organization’s powerful – at times controversial  - stance on protecting intellectual freedom.
For your convenience, we’ve highlighted some of these dissertations below. Dig in! We promise you’ll have a whole new appreciation for the profound and progressive influence the ALA has on our culture and society.
P.S. ProQuest is exhibiting at the American Library Association’s Annual Meeting later this month and can’t wait to meet those of you who are attending. Please stop by our booth to say “hi” and check out what’s new!
