There’s been a lot of remarkable scholarship about the ALA – a search for “American Library Association” in the ProQuest Dissertations and Thesis database turns up nearly 8,000 results! Topics range from the ALA’s role in developing librarianship as a profession, and its impact on the crucial function of libraries in disseminating information and promoting literacy, to the organization’s powerful – at times controversial – stance on protecting intellectual freedom.
