Members of the Nursing & Allied Health Database Advisory Board include both librarians and faculty members and represent a wide spectrum of academic institutions from the United States and Canada.
The mission of ProQuest advisory boards is to forge an ongoing, collaborative and open partnership to help set and validate ProQuest’s strategic direction. Advisory board members and ProQuest Health & Medical product leadership meet regularly throughout the year to gain a better understanding of the trends, drivers and priorities shaping the academic library community, explore upcoming nursing and allied health product developments/enhancements, and to acquire feedback that influences and validates ProQuest’s strategic direction.
Nursing & Allied Health Database Advisory Board Members:
Kimberly S. Beechler, EdD, RN, is currently a Senior Professor at Daytona State College, School of Nursing where she is the Patient Simulation Learning Outcomes Specialist. Her research explores prebriefing methods. Dr. Beechler is a pioneer and innovator in patient simulation. Over the last 17 years she has designed two simulation centers, authored simulation moulage and simulated clinical experiences, assisted with development of a simulation facilitation course, mentored simulation facilitators, implemented interdisciplinary simulations and assisted in development innovative simulation tools. She is an active member of INACSL and SSH and long term member of the FHSA Affinity Group. Dr. Beechler envisions advancements in simulation learning through mentorship, alliances, partnerships and membership networking.
Kendra Lake, MLIS, is a community college librarian at North Central Michigan College, whose role includes supporting health sciences occupational programs. Previously, she was the Dean of Library Services and Academic Technology at St. Clair Community College in Southeast Michigan. She is active in state-wide open education and academic library organizations.
B. Nan Schichtel, MLIS, MPA, CTA, has served as the Information Literacy & Outreach Librarian at Grand Rapids (Michigan) Community College since 2007; previously, she was a university health librarian, and library administrator. Nan enjoys working as liaison librarian to students and faculty in GRCC programs including: Dental Assisting/Hygiene; Exercise Science; General Health; Medical Assistant; Nursing; Occupational Therapy Assistant; Personal Trainer; Pharmacy Tech; Phlebotomy; Radiologic Technology; and, Sterile Processing.
Carrie Shaver, MA, DHA, IHC, is a clinical assistant professor and the director of the Community Health Advocacy program and Regional Healthcare Pipeline at Indiana University Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC). She coordinates regional healthcare education navigation strategies which align current post-secondary education and employment opportunities with the healthcare sector and establishes long-term approaches to further improve the system of learning and employment in Southcentral and Southeast Indiana. Professor Shaver teaches undergraduate courses in healthcare communication, data analysis, and research. She has a keen interest in simulation as a modality of experiential learning in healthcare profession education.
Daphne Stannard, PhD, RN, CNS, NPD-BC, FCCM has over 20 years of clinical experience in critical care and perianesthesia nursing, serving in a variety of roles at different institutions. From 2012-2019, Dr. Stannard concurrently served as the Chief Nurse Researcher, founding Director of the Institute for Nursing Excellence, Director of the UCSF JBI Centre for Evidence Synthesis & Implementation, and Nurse Administrator for the Highly Infectious Care Unit at UCSF Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Stannard works as an Associate Professor at the SFSU School of Nursing. Dr. Stannard is also the Coordinator of the EBP Strategic Work Team and Member of the Standards & Guidelines and Research Committees for ASPAN and is a member of the Qualitative, Textual Synthesis, and Implementation Methods Groups and the Convenor of the Surgical Services Node for JBI. Dr. Stannard is an Editor of the JBI Evidence Synthesis journal and the founding Associate Editor for the AORN Journal Quality Improvement Showcase: Lessons for Change.
Scott Thomson MS, MLIS, AHIP is the director of the library at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL; a post he has held since February of 2020. Prior to coming to Rush, he was the director of the library at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. Mr. Thomson has been a librarian for approximately 15 years, and he holds masters degrees in library and information science and healthcare administration.
Annette R. Waznonis, PhD, RN, has been working in healthcare for over 15 years, with experience in post-anesthesia care and emergency room nursing and instruction. Her area of expertise is simulation debriefing and her research is cited in the National League for Nursing’s Vision Statement, Debriefing Across the Curriculum. Currently, Dr. Waznonis is the Director of Simulation Curriculum and Research at Loyola University Chicago, where she works with professionals and students across healthcare and other disciplines. She serves as a Co-Chair of the Research Committee for the Chicago Simulation Consortium and is a member of numerous professional organizations and honor societies that promote excellence in education and leadership, in service to others.
Amanda Ross-White, MLIS, AHIP, has been with Queen’s University as the Nursing Librarian since 2004. An expert in systematic reviews, she is co-chair of the Information Methods Group of the Joanna Briggs Institute, has over 25 peer-reviewed publications and two books (one of which won an award from the American Journal of Nursing). Her current research examines the impact of predatory or deceptive publications on knowledge syntheses.
