Drive student success with affordable access to broad, discipline-aligned content

Extending ProQuest One’s award-winning approach to support research and learning across 17 disciplines

According to the 2024 Pulse of the Library report from Clarivate, academic libraries are significantly concerned about budgets and funding. The report reveals that almost half (47%) of respondents cite shrinking budgets as their greatest challenge. This concern is compounded by the need to integrate new technologies, such as AI, which may require additional investment and expertise. As the funding outlook gets more complicated, supporting institutional priorities such as student success while balancing budgets becomes more challenging.

Affordable Research and Learning Resources That Keep Libraries Ahead of the Curve

Helping libraries with affordable resources that propel student success has been a driving force behind the development of the ProQuest One discipline solutions. These popular library resources launched in 2019 with ProQuest One Literature, which combined expansive, multiformat discipline content in a single subscription. It was a milestone in library resources, encouraging successful literature research and learning by applying a deep domain-specific lens to both the interface and content. Its subscription access meant that libraries would gain ongoing updates to interface technology – like embedded academic AI – and content, enabling literature collections to evolve with user expectations. ProQuest followed up with solutions for Business, Psychology, Sustainability, Education, Women’s Studies and Black Studies, each with tailored content and interfaces to support the specific needs of users within the discipline.

Each ProQuest One resource has been met with overwhelmingly positive response. Examples include Library Journal describing ProQuest One Psychology as “essential” and a recent review in Katina, the new publication from the publisher of the Charleston Advisor, which lauds ProQuest One Education for its “well-designed user interface, multiple access points, and excellent content.”

Now, ProQuest has taken a major step forward with its latest expansion of the ProQuest One initiative, adding more than a dozen new solutions, enabling libraries to offer an extensive, affordable destination resource for academic success in 17 major academic disciplines.

Multiformat Content to Engage All Types of Learners

ProQuest One solutions span disciplines that rely on aggregated content - such as scholarly journals, gray literature, videos, ebooks, news, dissertations and A&I resources – as well as those that encompass expertly digitized primary sources including archival collections, government documents, historical magazines, manuscripts, musical scores and historical recordings. ProQuest One resources now include:

The ProQuest One Approach Combines Community Input with UX Research

The strong relationships ProQuest maintains with librarian and faculty advisors helps to ensure ProQuest One solutions meet the requirements of each discipline, while UX research with students ensures interfaces are intuitive and support discipline-specific use cases. The long-established partnerships between ProQuest and thousands of content providers, including scholarly publishers, newspapers, film makers, museums, libraries and archives ensure ProQuest One discipline solutions provide rich, multiformat content that is expertly indexed for easy discovery by researchers and students.

Research Assistance Helps Students Use AI Responsibly

Just as librarians are wrestling with the adoption of AI, so too are students. The Digital Education Council reports that 86% of higher ed students are routinely using AI for their assignments, yet they crave more guidance on how to use it responsibly. ProQuest Research Assistant is embedded in various ProQuest One solutions, helping students use academic AI in ways that support their research journeys and improve their research skills. Built in collaboration with the academic community, ProQuest Research Assistant has been carefully developed to maintain traditional scholarly values while helping students overcome typical barriers in the research process. Depending on the discipline, functionality may include help with crafting more effective searches or reviewing and analyzing documents.
