A library partnership designed for discovery

The Royal Danish Academy library expands access to interconnected resources for research, teaching and learning across the creative disciplines through Clarivate

In St. Petersburg stands an unusual building known as the Artists' House. Built as a home for artists, it became something more: a living archive of creative life. Architect and researcher Andreas Trier Mørch documented the building and the artworks it contains, describing a place filled with art that, over time, slipped into a curious state of ownership limbo. The result is both an architectural study and a reminder that buildings can preserve stories just as effectively as books, photographs, or archives.

Mørch’s book The Artists' House, available in ProQuest One Visual Art and Design, is just one example of the kinds of unexpected connections researchers can uncover when they move beyond disciplinary boundaries. A question about architecture can lead to questions about artistic communities, and the study of a building can become a study of cultural history. Visual research rarely follows a straight line.

That ability to connect ideas, sources and disciplines is at the heart of the adoption of ProQuest One Visual Arts & Design, from Clarivate, at the Royal Danish Academy.

Supporting Research Across Disciplines

The Royal Danish Academy is one of Europe's leading institutions for creative education, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary practice. Students and researchers using ProQuest One Visual Arts & Design gain access to a broad range of journals, archives and primary sources within a single resource, making it easier to move across materials and disciplines as part of the research process. Rather than organizing content in silos, the approach reflects how visual arts research is increasingly conducted: across formats, sources and fields.

ProQuest One Visual Arts & Design brings together resources spanning art, design, architecture and fashion, including scholarly journals, archives, primary sources and video content. For researchers, that means the freedom to follow ideas wherever they lead, whether investigating architectural history, design movements, visual culture, or emerging creative practices.

A Partnership Shaped With The Library

Clarivate worked in close collaboration with the Royal Danish Academy library team. Their focus on evolving support for visual research, and their openness to exploring new models, helped shape an agreement that goes beyond traditional acquisition. Instead, it reflects a shared commitment to long-term development and continuous improvement.

Lise Møller Eriksson, Head of Library, said: "Providing seamless access to high-quality information resources is a core part of the library's vision. This partnership strengthens the foundation for research, teaching, and learning across the Academy's creative disciplines."

Supporting The Research Journey

Students and researchers will also have access to ProQuest Research Assistant. The tool supports everyday research workflows such as exploring topics, organizing sources and generating citations, helping users spend more time engaging critically with content and developing their ideas.

The Royal Danish Academy and Clarivate will continue to share insights from the collaboration and explore future opportunities, including examples from teaching and research. As the story of the Artists' House demonstrates, some of the most interesting discoveries happen when researchers can move easily across disciplines, formats and collections in search of unexpected connections.
