The Library of Virginia Adopts Ex Libris Alma, Primo, and Rosetta Services to Support Its Initiative to Preserve, Manage, and Share Historical Archives

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the Library of Virginia has selected the Alma library services platform for library management, the Primo solution for discovery and delivery, and the Rosetta solution for digital asset management and preservation.

CHICAGO, IL, April 16, 2019 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Library of Virginia has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform for library management, the Ex Libris Primo® solution for discovery and delivery, and the Ex Libris Rosetta™ solution for digital asset management and preservation.

For nearly two centuries, the Library of Virginia has served as both the state library and the custodian of the state archives. The library’s vast, diverse collection includes records that begin with the settlement at Jamestown in the 17th century and continue with eight terabytes of data transferred to the library in 2018 from the administration of outgoing Governor Terry McAuliffe. The library also houses timeless collections of manuscripts, maps, architectural drawings and plans, print collections, state and federal documents, state artwork, and photographs.

The state library serves a wide variety of patrons, including social scientists, writers, artists, and historians, both local and remote.

To meet today’s challenging requirements, the Library of Virginia is adopting Ex Libris Rosetta for digital asset management and preservation, leveraging the leading preservation-industry standards and open APIs to provide continuity for generations to come. With the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Primo discovery and delivery solution, the library will streamline its workflows and facilitate patrons’ discovery of the library’s collections.

"As the state library and archives, we take very seriously our Code of Virginia mandate to preserve and make accessible the records of our government and to document the lives of Virginians over time," said Librarian of Virginia Sandra Treadway. "Our goal is to offer our patrons more cohesive and intuitive access across all our collections and to create a sound base from which to build truly sustainable digital preservation processes and policies."

“Ex Libris is delighted to welcome the Library of Virginia to our Alma, Primo, and Rosetta user communities,” added Eric Hines, president of Ex Libris North America. “The library has a unique responsibility to digitally preserve, manage, and render searchable some of the most significant documents capturing US history, and we look forward to seeing Ex Libris solutions supporting the library in that mission.”
