Fondazione Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura to Build Digital Library on Ex Libris Rosetta and Alma Solutions

Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce the the Fondazione Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura has selected the Alma library services platform and Rosetta digital asset management and preservation solution.

BOLOGNA, ITALY, May 8, 2018 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Fondazione Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura (European library of information and culture, or BEIC) has selected the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Rosetta digital asset management and preservation solution to more effectively manage the resources of BEIC’s digital collections. The BEIC Foundation will be replacing its open‑source software and migrating its current local installation of the Ex Libris Primo® discovery and delivery solution to a cloud-based implementation.

BEIC Foundation currently uses the Ex Libris Digitool digital asset management system to store over 14 million images; however, the Digital Library project will require an even larger scale of storage for these objects and robust preservation functionality. Also, as the archive’s scale and the consortium of institutions involved in the project grow, integrated archive and preservation workflows will have to be unified with the resource management workflows and the discovery and delivery service.

From the very beginning, the goal of the BEIC Digital Library has been to provide easy access to a vast collection of some of the most important European works to have been produced in the sciences, arts, and humanities from ancient times to today. Rosetta, Alma, and Primo will enable BEIC to offer access to these collections more effectively and efficiently, particularly through collaboration with other national and international institutions.

With the move to these modern solutions, the foundation expects to benefit from an increase in productivity, a reduction in costs, and improved scalability, all made possible by the software-as-a-service (SaaS) implementation. The close integration between Rosetta, Alma, and Primo, along with their compliance with industry standards and interoperability with third-party solutions, will ease the way for institutions that want to join the project.

Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, “We are delighted to continue our long partnership with BEIC. The foundation’s choice of Alma and Rosetta for this high-profile project demonstrates again the quality of our products and services and the robust integration between our solutions.”
