West Virginia University Libraries to Improve Discovery of Resources with the Summon™ Service

Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, announced today that West Virginia University (WVU) Libraries selected its Summon™ web-scale discovery service.

Nov. 16, 2010 - Seattle - Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, announced today that West Virginia University (WVU) Libraries selected its Summon™ web-scale discovery service to improve users’ ability to find information. The Summon™ service will provide West Virginia’s researchers with a modern interface and allow them to search the entire collection from a single search box quickly and easily.

The West Virginia University Libraries include five facilities – the Downtown Campus Library Complex, Evansdale Library, Health Sciences Library, Law Library and Libraries Depository – containing a vast amount of diverse resources.

“With nearly 1.7 million volumes, 250 databases and more than 30,000 electronic journals in our libraries, it is important to us that users are able to quickly and easily discover content,” said Penny Pugh, Head of the Reference Department, with West Virginia University Libraries. “After extensive consideration, we decided to go with the Summon service because it is a hosted solution, provides a single comprehensive index and can be easily customized to meet our users’ specific needs.”

Implementation of the Summon™ service is fast and easy and does not require libraries to make significant investments in hardware since it is a hosted solution. This also means that Serials Solutions maintains the service, freeing up librarians for other activities, such as managing collections or working on special projects.

We’re pleased that West Virginia University Libraries have embraced Summon,” said Stan Sorensen, vice president product management and marketing for Serials Solutions. “WVU is a top-notch institution well known for its excellent faculty and prestigious scholarships. We are proud to have the opportunity to provide our first-rate Summon service to its libraries’ users.”
