Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology Adopts Serials Solutions Summon™ Discovery Service

Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest, announced today that Chalmers University of Technology is the first institution in Sweden to adopt the Summon™ web-scale discovery service in its library.

Sept. 23, 2010 – Seattle & Gothenburg – Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest, announced today that Chalmers University of Technology is the first institution in Sweden to adopt the Summon™ web-scale discovery service in its library.

Chalmers, an acclaimed university for technology, natural science and architecture founded in 1829, has a full-time enrollment of more than 11,000 students. Its library system provides a central resource for information support to Chalmers students, researchers, teachers and other staff.

“Fueled by the Chalmers Open Access policy and with an emphasis on bioscience, information technology, production, environmental science and nanotechnology, we have an extensive collection of digital content in our library system,” explains Daniel Forsman, head of Library Information Resources and Discovery with Chalmers University of Technology. “Given this, it is essential that this content is easily discoverable to our net-generation students. With the Summon discovery service we can provide students, faculty and staff with one simple search box for their research. It is simple to use, giving researchers, students and the public easy access to our library’s full content.”

The Summon™ service has been adopted by over 120 libraries worldwide for three core reasons: First, it delivers simple, easy and fast access to high-quality library content. Second, the Summon™ service was built purposefully and specifically for web-scale discovery with a single index to provide the coverage, speed and relevant results that net-generation researchers expect. Finally, the Summon™ service is the most customizable and configurable discovery option for libraries with an implementation process that is fast and painless.

Forsman adds “In our review of all the services available to help our researchers we found the Summon service to be the best. Since the Chalmers Library is a university and public research library specializing in science and technology, we needed a service that would meet the needs of patrons with varying levels of information literacy. Because the Summon interface is so intuitive to use and offers API access it was ideal.”

The Chalmers Library includes the Main and Architecture Libraries at the Johanneberg campus and the Lindholmen Library at the Lindholmen campus.

About The Summon™ Service

The Summon™ service enables a familiar web-searching experience of the full breadth of content found in library collections – from books and videos to e-resources such as articles. It aims to bring researchers back to library content and resources by providing a premiere and easy-to-use discovery tool. Librarians like the Summon™ service’s power to transform their institution’s search experience, and have found it easy to set up and integrate into their current library operations.
