David Cobb's early life was spent as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and as aide-de-camp to General George Washington. In later years, he contributed greatly to the growth of the newly formed nation as Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and President of the Senate, as a judge, a member of Congress, and Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.

This collection consists primarily of papers relating to Cobb's private interests in land and fisheries development in Maine, as well as correspondence to other prominent Massachusetts citizens such as Henry Knox and Timothy Pickering, whose papers are described elsewhere in this Massachusetts Historical Society series.

Titles from the Massachusetts Historical Society Collections may be purchased by individual reel.
