Nicolas de Bonneville and the Cercle Social

Nicholas de Bonneville embodied perfectly the generation of intellectuals at the end of the eighteenth century for whom the French Revolution was an opportunity and a faith, a profession, and a belief. For this versatile writer, the events of 1789 provided an extraordinary field of political activity. He was an Elector of Paris; a member of the new municipal power structure; an editor of the Tribun du Peuple; and founder, with Abbé Fauchet (October 1790), of the Cercle Social. Nicolas de Bonneville was an incomparable publicist of ideas and the Cercle Social was the extraordinary crossroads of those ideas; this collection contains the major works of both these sources.
