Transdex

Spanning an array of scientific and social issues such as the international AIDS crisis, the economic implications of a sugar shortage in China, a superconductivity conference in Tokyo, or a telecommunications network in Czechoslovakia, Transdex provides access to materials originally published outside the United States and translated into English.

Transdex provides access to non-U.S. originated materials selected and translated by the Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS), an arm of the U.S. government. The information in these documents comes from newspapers, journals, speeches, and broadcasts and covers a wide range of topics, including agriculture, business and economics, politics, science, sociology, and technology. The more than 100,000 pages produced each year also covered foreign affairs, international relations, and sensitive topics such as military intelligence.

These documents, originally written in languages other than English, come from all regions of the world, including:

• Africa
• Asia (China, India, Japan, and other countries)
• East and West Europe (France, Norway, USSR, and other countries)
• Latin America
• the Near East

UMI^®'s Transdex provides the key to this hard-to-access information in two ways: the Transdex Index and Transdex Microfiche.

The Transdex Index: Rapid Access to JPRS Documents UMI's Transdex Index is the only index available that can be used to access both the original JPRS documents and the UMI Transdex Microfiche edition described below. The Transdex Index is divided into the following sections designed to meet specific information needs:

• Publications Index
• Series Index

The Transdex Microfiche Edition: Full-Text JPRS Documents Documents are available in complete-set subscriptions by years. Transdex Microfiche can also be purchased by area (Africa, Asia, East Europe, etc.).
