Making it “Easy as Pie” to Increase Visibility for the Library at Rollins College

At Rollins College, when the Web Group in the College’s Marketing & Communications Department went to re-design the College website they noticed library web pages were some of the most heavily searched content on the website.

Recognizing the importance of making it easy to access frequently used information, the Web Group decided to incorporate searching the library’s implementation of the Summon service in the header of the new College website (now in beta). The result: a major increase in visibility and prominence of the library within the academic environment, all without any lobbying or effort from library staff.

“A few years ago this would have been a major undertaking,” stated Jonathan Miller, library director of the Olin Library at Rollins College.  “With Summon: easy as pie.”

Students and faculty can now search the “digital front door” of the library from the College’s website to discover content in the library’s collections, information about the library, or connect to other relevant library resources.  Easy to integrate into course management systems, research guides and institution websites, the Summon service provides a compelling starting place for research, wherever research starts.
